Great wines, magnificent vines.

Few places on earth offer such a spectacular outlook. Nestled atop Tygerberg Hill, De Grendel presents breath-taking views of Table Mountain, the city and the seaboard in one unique setting. A mere 20 minutes from the city, you will be greeted by a dramatic expanse of land that is home to our vineyards, carefully tended, and then crafted by Winemaker's Guild member Charles Hopkins, producing prestigious wines of consistently exceptional quality.

One of Cape Town’s oldest farms, De Grendel has a magnificent centuries-old history within the Graaff family and is perfectly situated on high, sea-facing slopes overlooking the greater Cape Town. De Grendel is the only vineyard in the country that is 350m above sea level and only seven kilometres from the sea, and this uniquely elevated position forms an integral part of the micro-climate that shapes our elegant wines.

Our vines benefit from the south-facing aspects and the close moderating effects of the ocean – advantages that are the product of the site. In both our viticulture and wine-making, our goal is the expression of the character of this distinctive position.
